Black Marriage By the Numbers 2/13

New Research Shatters Myths and Provides

New Hope for Black Love and Marriage

This lecture scrutinizes the media’s portrayals of the “black marriage crisis” and shatters commonly held myths about black marriage and relationships.   Dr. Ivory Toldson  has examined popular concerns such as, “Did slavery destroy the black family for future generations?,”  “Do educated black women have a slim chance of getting married because of a social collapse among black men?,” and “What is the female-to-male ratio in cities like Atlanta and Washington, DC?”

Dr. Toldson has been featured on NPR News, the New York Times, The Root, Essence.com, BET.com, The Griot and The YBF. He is the Editor-in-Chief at The Journal of Negro Education, a Senior Research Analyst at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and an Associate Professor at Howard University.
