Executive Mentoring Program Introduced

Mentoring is a developmental partnership through which one person shares knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the personal and professional growth of another individual.

Purpose

The National Society of Black Engineers – Alumni Extension Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Chapter (NSBE-AEDC) Executive Mentoring Program links chapter members with corporate executives within the community, who provide one-on-one guidance that aids in professional development and contributes to the advancement of our members’ careers.

Overview

The NSBE-AEDC Executive Mentoring Program pairs chapter members with corporate executives from various industries for an eight-month period from October to May. The Mentor and Protégé pair will be matched according to their educational backgrounds, professions, industries, and interests. At the beginning of the program, the pair will be required to set specific goals that are to be completed during the course of the program. Mentor and Protégé progress will be measured during the year to ensure that their expectations are being met.

The pair will be required to communicate twice a month over the eight-month time frame. It is expected that the Mentor will be able to share knowledge about specific jobs, organizations, career development, and business topics. The Protégé will be prepared to discuss their career goals and receive the expert advice of their mentor.

Three Executive Mentoring Program events will be held during the year. The Executive Mentoring Program Kickoff will be held in October, a development event will take place in January, and the Closing event will take place in May.

While the continuation of the mentoring relationship at the conclusion of the program is encouraged, it is not required. It is our hope that at the end of the Program, both mentors and protégé’s will find that the mentoring relationship was mutually beneficial.
