National Day of Service - STEM April 21, 2012 || Greater Washington Urban League

National STEM Day of Service Thursdays Network of The Urban League Washington DC Young Professionals and NSBE-AEDC are seeking volunteers to demonstrate the various academic and professional possibilites in the STEM field.

STEM Professionals Needed: We are seeking volunteers who work in a STEM field to help demonstrate the various academic and professional possibilities with a background in STEM disciplines.

About: Each year the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) chapters collectively participate in community service on the same day to show the nation that young professionals DO give back to our communities. This day is known as the National Day of Service. This year's theme for National Day of Service is STEM Works! The goal is to get bright young students, especially from underrepresented groups, excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) studies, and encourage these students to consider careers in STEM fields.

Finance Chair
Serve as the corporate liaison and act as the primary representative of NSBE AEDC to current and prospective corporate sponsors. Engage, cultivate, support, and maintain vital relationships as we seek to develop partnerships as sources of financial support, business contacts, and career opportunities. Activities include fundraising, networking, and helping create the brand for our growing organization. 
 
Membership
Coordinate member based focused events and guide recruitment of potential members along with membership retention. Welcome and orient new NSBE-AEDC members into the National Society and the Washington DC Chapter.
 
College Initiative Chair serve as an interface for AEDC with colleges throughout the DC Metro Area. Activities include planning college tours, mentoring college students, and facilitating networking events that bring together college students and corporate representatives for open and honest conversation.
 
Pre-College Initiative Chair
get involved with cordinating AEDC's national recognized and award winning activities and programs geared towards the promotion of academic excellence, leadership, as well as technical and cultural awareness among pre-college students.

Publications /Public Relations Chair  
If you like marketing, public relations, writing, and are energetic, dedicated and creative, then we're excited to meet you! Strive to provide the "one voice, one face" to help NSBE AEDC project a professional image in our interactions with members, sponsors, partners, and the media. Promote and introduce NSBE AEDC and its mission to the world. We look forward to being successful and working with you to tell our story and market our opportunities.  Let's draw record attendance at our NSBE AEDC events. 
 
Banquet Chair
Coordinates and implementate of the Annual NSBE-AEDC Scholarship Benefit & Awards Gala signature event.
 
Professional Development Chair
Plan or partner with professional organizations to hold events that provide chapter members opportunities to earn and manage credits towards certain certifications.
Hold soft mentoring sessions where AEDC leverage expertise within the chapter to provide mentoring on topics ranging from requesting a raise, completing professional assessments, updating resumes and networking. Explore the range of dynamic and innovative guest presenters and panelists during AEDC General Body Meetings.
 
Parliamentarian
Serves as an advisory member of the board and serves as a resource on parliamentary procedure.

Executive Mentoring Program Introduced






Mentoring is a developmental partnership through which one person shares knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the personal and professional growth of another individual.

 





Purpose

The National Society of Black Engineers – Alumni Extension Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Chapter (NSBE-AEDC) Executive Mentoring Program links chapter members with corporate executives within the community, who provide one-on-one guidance that aids in professional development and contributes to the advancement of our members’ careers.
